Without asking anyone’s permission

I have the power to change things in my life without asking permission from anybody.
- My dreams
- My career
- My mind
- My plans
- My boundaries
- My goals
- My feelings
- (post in the comments if you’d like to add more to this list)
I have a friend who was completely frozen in a bad situation. She was in a toxic relationship with a controlling man. He told her what to think and how to dress — even how to wear her hair. A romantic relationship shouldn’t be a power struggle.
I dreamed of becoming an artist but I was afraid of what my family and close friends would think. “Who does she think she its?!” “She has finally lost her mind!” I had no formal training to be an artist. Are there “gatekeepers” that I needed to ask permission first?
We often think that goals can’t be changed
We think careers that we went to college for can’t be altered. But, we’ve got just one chance on this planet. Why not try something new if the old thing is sucking the joy out of you?
Sometimes we let this resistance from others stop us.
“If it is important to you, you will find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse.” ~Ryan Blair
Anger is a messenger — Ask what it wants you to know
Are you always angry? Do you hate your job, your commute, your paycheck?
It’s okay to want things that other people don’t understand. You can begin again as many times as you want. You don’t have to settle for things that make you feel small and powerless. You always have a choice.
Don’t settle for things that feel wrong. Do not give any more energy to the things you want to be free from. Those tough experiences made you stronger. It is time to start using that strength. It is time to stop settling for less.
- You are not powerless.
- You can choose.
- You can take your power back.
Every minute is a brand new chance to choose another way. You can start over right now.
