Or try not to suck
It’s the end of the year. That means people are thinking about New Year’s Resolutions.
Ugh. I never know what to do. Should I have a “Big Hairy Audacious Goal” (BHAG)?
…Or should I just try not to suck?
I think there is wisdom in the saying, “Don’t try to boil the ocean.”
Meaning, don’t try to take on massive projects. Attempting to “boil” the entire ocean is not a practical task due to its sheer magnitude. Failure is a near certainty. I will kill myself with stress and discouragement.
I will get to the end of the year feeling stupid. Again.
But, I can boil a pot of water
To do: Identify my “ocean.”
To do: Break it up into little pots of water, not trying to solve every problem at once.
To do: Force myself to focus on boiling one pot of water at a time. Actually accomplish it before moving on.
I’m going to try something different this year.
What about you? What do you do?
